Star Wars has long been the ultimate property of Disney, and the last three Star Wars films have been well-received.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the new film, however, as the first trailer has revealed the presence of a new villain in the sequel.
The teaser has revealed a new face in the Star Wars canon, with the name Nick Canon.
Canon, a Force-sensitive member of the Rebel Alliance, is a member of Kylo Ren’s secret Sith apprentice, and he was first introduced in The Force Unleashed, a book published by Lucasfilm before the release of the first three films.
While Canon has been described as a Sith Lord by some, others have dismissed him as a “fictional character”.
He has appeared in a number of other Star Wars novels, comics, video games and TV shows, as well as in the animated television series, and is even featured in a short film.
The first teaser trailer for The Force Awaken revealed that Canon’s identity is revealed in a small scene in The Last Jedi.
The scene is taken from the final scene of Return of the Jedi, in which Vader reveals that he had intended to destroy the galaxy with the Death Star, and Canon was captured by Kylo in a desperate attempt to save his friends and family.
Canon is rescued by the Resistance, and has been a prominent member of their ranks.
Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in the UK on December 15, 2019, and will be released in the US on May 25, 2020.
